What is your first memory of baking/cooking on your own?

the first thing i cooked was a very disgusting soup with coffee in it. i loved the smell of freshly ground coffee, and i loved chicken broth with noodles, so i thought, a combination would be a good idea.
the first edible stuf i put on the table was a risotto with funghi porcini and saffron. it's been my favourite dish for all of my life and my father had to work and was not there to cook it for me and i thought: oh well then, i'll do it myself. it was a big pot of slightly oversalted risotto(4-6 servings), but i ate it nonetheless.

Who had the most influence on your cooking?

my father. he's italian and grew up in switzerland, he used to work in a lot of restaurants as a chef and i just loved to come and visit him at work and being fed with all these interesting things. also, he cooked for me at home when i was young and i fell into a food crisis, when my parents separated.
my german grandmother used to cook for me a lot when i was around 8 or 9 and her cooking showed me the delicious side of german food. and my grand-aunt. she lived on the countryside and was a real down-to-earth person. i liked her a lot.
and my italian grandfather.
he worked at an italian food-wholesale in zurich and i've visited him at work whenever i've been there with my grandparents and i just loved all the food around me. he always took me with him when he went to do the shopping and i always got a slice of mortadella or something else..

Do you have an old photo as “evidence” of an early exposure to the culinary world and would you like to share it?

yes, but i don't have it digitalised.
it shows me at my nonnos workplace, eating strawberries from the crate.
this is how i see myself:
little me in food wonderland. this is why i like to work with food: there should always be more than i could eat.

Mageiricophobia - do you suffer from any cooking phobia, a dish that makes your palms sweat?

what?
i've been working in the kitchen for quite a while now, i would never cook something i don't like at home(exception: i cooked asparagus for my husband, because i love him). at work is at work. i'd rather not kill lobsters or snails or something like that, but if i don't have to eat it, i don't care.

What would be your most valued or used kitchen gadgets and/or what was the biggest letdown?

i bought myself a really good english steel chefs knife and totally love it.
and i got a kitchen aid as a present and almost never use it, but my husband does.

Name some funny or weird food combinations/dishes you really like - and probably no one else!

don't know.
strawberry and cucumber i guess.

What are the three eatables or dishes you simply don’t want to live without?

risotto. pasta. cheese.
we're mountain people, you know.

Any question you missed in this meme, that you would have loved to answer? Well then, feel free to add one!

Q:are you working the food industry, why and what?

A:i used to and maybe when money is short, i'll be doing it again, but at the moment i'm fine with cooking for my family.

Three quickies:
Your favorite ice-cream…

a good straciatella.

You will probably never eat…

snails, squid, asparagus, sheeps eyes.

Your own signature dish…

risotto home style or with radicchio.

i pass this stick to: herrn paulsen und andropovsonkel.
